Anne Valente is the author of the novel, “Our Hearts Will Burn Us Down” (William Morrow/HarperCollins, 2016), and the short story collection, “By Light We Knew Our Names” (Dzanc Books, 2014). Her second novel, “Utah,” is forthcoming from HarperCollins in 2019. Her short fiction appears in “One Story,” “The Kenyon Review,” “The Southern Review” and “The Chicago Tribune,” and her essays appear in “The Believer,” “Catapult” and “The Washington Post.” Originally from St. Louis, where her first novel is set, she currently lives in upstate New York where she teaches creative writing and literature at Hamilton College.
