Shane Seely

Shane Seely directs the MFA program at the University of Missouri – St. Louis. He was born in 1972 along the Grand Army of the Republic Highway, in the area of Pennsylvania now called the “Pennsylvania Wilds” — one of the few parts of the Mid-Atlantic where clear night skies reveal the Milky Way. Shane was educated in Pennsylvania and Kansas before attending the MFA program at Syracuse University, where he met his wife. In 2002, they moved to St. Louis, and Shane began teaching classes at various local universities. For several years, he helped to run the composition program at Washington University in St. Louis. He joined the UMSL faculty in 2012. He and his wife live on the edge of St. Louis City in a cozy house with their daughter and dog.
